Dr. Joel Schlessinger shares an unexpected predictor of facial signs of aging.
Do you wish you could look into a crystal ball to see how you’ll age? YouBeauty.com does the next best thing.
In their article “Will You Age Well? 7 Signs to Tell You Now,” which got published on Yahoo!’s Shine, YouBeauty.com talks to experts about the seven key features of aging – and what that means to you. Dr. Joel Schlessinger addresses one of those seven features: the topic of facial symmetry and its role in our appearance as we age.
Dr. Joel Schlessinger points out that symmetrical facial features allow a person’s appearance to age more slowly.
As sagging, wrinkling and uneven pigmentation occur as we age, these signs are more apparent, overall, in people with uneven facial features. So, if you start out with more symmetrical features, signs of aging will most likely take longer to show on your face.
As an interesting sidenote, the National Health Service of England reported on a study that states that men with symmetrical faces are less likely to lose their memory and intelligence as they age. This research was conducted by scholars at the University of Edinburgh and received funding from the British Academy, the German Research Foundation and the UK Medical Research Council. This study initially appeared in the peer-reviewed medical journal Evolution and Human Behaviour.
