Dr. Joel Schlessinger discusses exciting study results about enhancing botox.

Dr. Joel Schlessinger discusses a study that he co-authored in an interview with The subject? Enhancing botox results.

Skin Care For Botox Users - The Beauty Rules
In an article titled “Skin Care For Botox Users – Enhance Botox Results,” the doctor shares information about a study that he co-authored with Jeffrey Kenkel and Philip Werschler.

In the study, all 61 subjects had botox injections. Some subjects then used a follow up skin care routine with products containing 4% hydroquinone and 0.05% tretinoin cream, while others were treated to a more typical skin care system.

Those with the hydroquinone and tretinoin cream treatment showed an 86% reduction in wrinkles, while the other group saw only an 8% rate of improvement. The more successful treatment also improved skin discoloration.

According to Dr. Joel Schlessinger, the hydroquinone system is easy to follow, besides being quite effective.

The full study (Further Enhancement of Facial Appearance With a Hydroquinone Skin Care System Plus Tretinoin in Patients Previously Treated With Botulinum Toxin Type A) is available online at the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, but you’ll need to either have a subscription or pay a fee to read it.

Dr. Joel Schlessinger: the first Ultherapy provider in the state of Nebraska.

Modern Medicine offers an update on Ultherapy, a non-surgical ultrasound procedure to lift, tighten and tone skin. They quote Dr. Joel Schlessinger.

Joel Schlessinger MD featured in article in Dermatology Times
This article was initially published in Dermatology Times. Since its publication, the doctor has become the first Ultherapy provider in the state of Nebraska. Ultherapy is FDA approved and can now be used on the face and neck and, best of all, the procedure takes fewer than 90 minutes – and you can even go out afterwards, without anyone being the wiser about what work you’ve had done.

With this technology, focused ultrasound energy is directed to targeted areas of your skin via a smooth applicator. The tissue below your skin heats to stimulate the growth of new collagen. This improves the appearance of your eyes, cheeks and upper neck without altering your skin’s surface.

With this therapy, laser targets the same tissue that would be focused upon in cosmetic surgery. For more information about how Ultherapy works, take a look at these slides, which include before and after photos:

Are you wondering if you’d make a good candidate for Ultherapy?

If you fit into these categories, then this may be the treatment for you:

  • Skin has relaxed to the point that it looks and feels less firm
  • Aged 30 to 65
  • Mild to moderate skin laxity (brow descent, hooded lids, jowls, chin sagging, flattening of mid-cheek and so forth)
  • NOT pregnant
  • NOT lactating

Most people only need one treatment, and that lasts for 12 to 18 months. If you are fair skinned, you may notice an hour or so of flushed skin after the procedure.

Dr. Joel Schlessinger shares why too much work and not enough sleep can age you!

Men’s Health selected and prioritized ten cities where the world’s sexiest men live. Dr. Joel Schlessinger explains the appeal of Stockholm, Sweden.

Men's Health - Be the Sexiest Man in the World
According to Men’s Health, in their article, “Be the Sexiest Man in the World,” men in Stockholm, Sweden capture the prize – and the writer says that’s because these men leave the office early.

Dr. Joel Schlessinger builds upon that theme, sharing how stress is often reflected in the wrinkle found between the eyes – which becomes a furrow and, eventually, a permanent crease. Finally, it turns into a frown that can add years to a man’s look, thereby reducing his sex appeal.

The men in Stockholm are at far less risk for this than men who log in long hours, because only .01 percent of people in Sweden work 50 hours or more per week.

If you’re interested in reading more about work and leisure hours and how they compare in various countries, read this in-depth report: Work and Leisure in the U.S. and Europe: Why So Different? This report was published by the National Bureau of Economic Research.

In the early 1970s, hours worked were about equal in the United States and Western Europe. In the 21st century, the working hours in Europe are nearly 50 percent less, while the United States workers have not experienced this dip. This report delves into the reasons why.

Frustrated by dry skin and chapped lips – and wondering what to do? Dr. Joel Schlessinger shares easy-to-follow tips with Hollywood Life.

Hollywood Life
In “How To Fight Your Dry Skin & Chapped Lips This Season,” Dr. Joel Schlessinger shares that dryness occurs because of loss of moisture and, once the skin is damaged from the dryness, it’s harder than ever to retain natural moisture.

So, where do you start? Tips include:

  • Avoid hot water
  • Minimize exposure to water
  • Towel dry; don’t rub the skin
  • Drink water
  • Avoid caffeine

How big is the problem of dry skin in the United States? According to an article, “What’s Causing Your Dry Skin? Check these 11 common causes of dry skin,” found on, “There are probably close to 100 million dried out, itchy people in the country right now.” This article also shares other common reasons for dry skin to occur.

To fight dry skin, hydrate with a moisturizer chosen by the doctor and available at

EltaMD Lotion - 8 oz

When your face is appropriately moisturized, your complexion is brighter and more youthful. So, for healthy looking skin, be sure to moisturize at least once a day, if not twice, using a product that’s right for your skin type. Also consider your skin’s tone when choosing a moisturizer; products come in different tints to bring out the most luminous look for you.

One of the doctor’s favorite moisturizers to soothe dry itchy skin is EltaMD Lotion. This product is non-comedogenic (does not block/clog up pores), and sensitivity- and fragrance-free.
