Expert fall skin care tips from Joel Schlessinger MD featured on TheStyleandBeautyDoctor.comJoel Schlessinger MD was recently a featured expert on TheStyleandBeautyDoctor.com. In the article “Fall Skin Care Tips and Tricks with Dermatologist Dr. Schlessinger,” he answers common questions about caring for your skin as the weather changes.

“Fall is the time to take stock of what has happened over the summer to your skin,” Joel Schlessinger notes. He says that brown spots and melasma may have been worsened by sun exposure and a good hyperpigmentation treatment may be needed to lighten these areas.

As the weather becomes drier, our fingers and lips can become cracked and chapped. Joel Schlessinger MD also recommends repairing these sensitive areas with the FixMySkin 1% Hydrocortisone Balm.

Although we may not be outside as much as we were in the summer, Joel Schlessinger MD still says you should wear sunscreen every day.

“Sun exposure continues to occur, so it is important to wear sunscreen daily!”

Acne is another issue that may flare-up in the winter.  Joel Schlessinger says that acne is partially hormonal and since people are generally closer together in the winter, hormonal-based acne breakouts may occur.

But the biggest thing to remember as the seasons change is that our skin needs some additional help to compensate for the changing seasons by upping or lowering oil production. Since the cooler months are drier, now is the time to switch out your moisturizer for a heavier, richer formula.
