Dr. Joel Schlessinger shares fall skin care tips with Women’s Health
In summer, skin tends to take on a dewy glow that can slowly fade as warm, humid days are replaced with the cooler, drier air of fall. But saying good-bye to June, July and August doesn’t have to mean bidding farewell to luminous skin. In a recent article for WomensHealthMag.com called “8 Ways to Keep Your Summer Glow into Fall,” Dr. Joel Schlessinger shared tips and tricks for avoiding dullness and maintaining a radiant complexion this season.
Sunscreen is a must for healthy skin, says Dr. Joel Schlessinger.
The single best thing you can do for your skin is wear sunscreen every day, rain or shine, all year round to enhance your skin’s natural radiance. “Sunscreens act not only to protect your skin but to ensure you retain your healthy glow,” says Dr. Schlessinger. “Collagen damage from UV light will lead to dull and mottled skin over time, and sunscreen is the antidote.”
It’s also important to exfoliate at least once a week. Dr. Schlessinger cautions, “Without proper exfoliation, skin can develop a dull appearance that can be hard to mask with makeup.”
Dr. Joel Schlessinger warns against the dangers of indoor tanning.
Tanning beds are bad news due to their link to the deadliest form of skin cancer, melanoma, and their capacity for causing skin damage and premature signs of aging. Visiting a tanning bed to get a quick tan will actually lead to dry, dull skin and put you at serious risk.
Dr. Schlessinger recommends a self-tanner, the only safe way to achieve a tan. “Follow the directions on the package as closely as possible to ensure the best results,” he says. At LovelySkin, we like jane iredale Tantasia Self Tanner & Bronzer. The moisturizing formula helps deliver natural-looking color that won’t streak or smudge anywhere on the face or body. Use it to customize a hue that’s perfect for your skin tone.
Dr. Joel Schlessinger recommends makeup to achieve a quick glow.
Makeup can work wonders to create an instantly dewier complexion. Dr. Schlessinger recommends sweeping on a bronzer with a hint of shimmer and choosing a natural blush for a healthy glow. Try the glo minerals GloShimmer Brick, a pressed powder quad that contains four shimmery shades to swirl together or use separately as a bronzer, highlighter and blush. As a bonus, the powders contain antioxidants to help protect skin and promote a long-term healthy glow.
For a blush, a LovelySkin favorite is Youngblood Crushed Mineral Blush. This loose powder is ideal for adding a hint of beautifully natural color to the apples of the cheeks.
