In summer, skin tends to take on a dewy glow that can slowly fade as warm, humid days are replaced with the cooler, drier air of fall. But saying good-bye to June, July and August doesn’t have to mean bidding farewell to luminous skin. In a recent article for WomensHealthMag.com called “8 Ways to Keep Your Summer Glow into Fall,” Dr. Joel Schlessinger shared tips and tricks for avoiding dullness and maintaining a radiant complexion this season.

Sunscreen is a must for healthy skin, says Dr. Joel Schlessinger.

The single best thing you can do for your skin is wear sunscreen every day, rain or shine, all year round to enhance your skin’s natural radiance. “Sunscreens act not only to protect your skin but to ensure you retain your healthy glow,” says Dr. Schlessinger. “Collagen damage from UV light will lead to dull and mottled skin over time, and sunscreen is the antidote.”

It’s also important to exfoliate at least once a week. Dr. Schlessinger cautions, “Without proper exfoliation, skin can develop a dull appearance that can be hard to mask with makeup.”

Tanning beds are bad news due to their link to the deadliest form of skin cancer, melanoma, and their capacity for causing skin damage and premature signs of aging. Visiting a tanning bed to get a quick tan will actually lead to dry, dull skin and put you at serious risk.
